Father Dennis Rochford was one of the most inspiring chaplains I ever served with in my 24+ year military career. I recruited him and got him assigned to Camp Lejeune, NC where he served with both 2d FSSG and 2d MARDIV. I also visited and stayed with him when he was stationed at MCRD Parris Island and TBS in Quantico. The recruits and officer candidates of all faith groups, including agnostics and atheists, all revered him. Unfortunately, because he was so inspiring, authentic, and dedicated, many chaplains with whom he served were very jealous of him which contributed to feelings of loneliness (especially after both of his parents died). He personified the Marine Corps motto, "Semper Fidelis," and exemplified the Core Values of "Honor, Courage, and Commitment."
