How sad.  I shall offer Holy Mass for him.

This good priest is in the hands of Jesus.  When severe depression is present, the depression interferes with our free will.  Thus, his suicide was caused by factors that were not in his control.  The only suicide that leads to eternal damnation is if the person shakes his fist at God and states to God, "I hate you and I am now going to shoot myself to death."  All of the other suicides are not grave sins because they are from a deeply wounded person.

Dear Friends of Fr. Dennis Rocheford,

Let me express my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. Dennis and I spent three years together at Camp Lejeune. He in Division and I at Base. As chapel pastor with responsibility for seven chapels and a dozen weekend Masses, I was often hard-pressed to find chaplains to assist. Dennis was always available even though it may have been the only day off he had that week. Unannounced, he often popped up, in fatigues to concelebrate the mid day weekday Mass. However devoted to his Marines he never forgot the importance of his priesthood and prayer life. He will always remain a source of inspiration to me.
